How to avoid burning out?

How to avoid burning out. That is the reflection of the day. Today, I was sitting with two of my managers at Formé and I was talking to them about delegating especially for one of them because with one of them already I’ve had the conversation and I see her implementing the tools that I’ve been giving her. One of them is just learning to navigate management. Her management role. But I see her doing more than delegating and I was talking to her about the importance of delegating and how to become an excellent manager you need to be able to delegate as much as possible. So the question always is “do I need my skills to do what needs to be done or can I go and find someone else in the team to be able to do what needs to be done so that I could become more of a supervisor?” This is something that you can carry on into your family life. You know I talk about the fact that for 30 years I have not been cleaning my house. I decided this at one point even when I didn’t have the financial freedom to be able to hire a housekeeper, I did. I looked at my budget and I decided to cut things that were not as important because I realized the value of time. With the time of cleaning and doing laundry, I actually was able to work more hours. I was able to educate myself more or spend more time with my family because I decided to hire someone to do the job that I actually don’t even particularly like. But I knew that delegating those skills that I didn’t really need my skill level to do was something that I needed to do something later on. I actually, for 30 years, had Gloria in my life. Gloria for 15-20 years or so, I would say, lived with me maybe less. I don’t remember but it’s about 10-15 years and again, I looked at my budget and I decided what was important to me and having someone in my house that can cook and help me take care of my children as I grow my role as an Executive Director at Scarsdale Medical. This is when I was there. I was able to stay longer and really grow my position because I was able to delegate many things in the household to Gloria and it’s a blessing. It’s a blessing to be able to learn to delegate. So today, I am asking you to reflect on your life. What are the things that you’re doing that do not require your skills and that are consuming you to the point of burning out? Let’s reflect, reset and reconnect.
