Do you value your words?

Do you value your words? That is the reflection of the day. Today, I’m reflecting on this concept because I had an insane day. From the beginning of the morning when I woke up, I was busy and I ended up being out of the office most of the morning helping my team do COVID testing at a campsite where I ended up having some fun as well. It was a beautiful place. I realized as I came to the office that I had 250 emails. That is a challenge and I had a very important project that I needed to complete which was a video for my PR team and marketing team since we are entering a contest and we’re going to be at a book fair. It needed to be done today. I knew that no matter what I had to do. If I promised that to my team, I was going to deliver. That is something that I constantly strive to do. If I give my word, I deliver with my words and I deliver the actions that I say I’m going to do. There are some times that I might not be able to do it but I still call the person and tell them, “ I’m sorry, I didn’t get a chance to do it or I will not get a chance to do it. I will follow up with you and I try to follow up. I know it’s difficult because we all live such a busy life that it is very difficult to deliver every promise that we make. But if you are going to be delivering promises, I mean if you’re going to be making promises and not delivering them, then you need to reflect. Let me help you understand what happens when you don’t deliver your promises. I have seen this before COVID. There are so many times that I went to events and I would meet so many people and I would give many of my cards. It would be 50, sometimes 100 cards. Everybody I met would give you a promise, “Oh, I can help you with this or I’m going to connect with you because I would like to learn more about this or I’m going to order your book or I’m going to reach out to you because I really want some mentoring. I give my card with my cellular number freely because most people do not deliver on the promises that they make. The ones that do deliver are the ones that are going to live above average lives because they will have people that will be there to support them when they need them. There will be a team of either family members, friends and people in their jobs that believe in them and are going to support them because they know that if they said they’re going to do something, they will do it. If that is not you, you need to look at your life. You would realize that maybe you have less people in your life than you want. Maybe, you are a little more lonely or maybe, you feel that nobody wants to help you or nobody comes through for you. Nobody wants to, you know. If you called them, they might not want to answer you. Start reflecting instead of being a victim of the circumstances. Start reflecting on what role I am in during this situation. Is it because I’m not valuing my words? I’m telling people that I will deliver on things that I’m not delivering. It is powerful and almost common sense that if you continue to promise and not deliver, you are hurting yourself, no one else. You might hurt somebody temporarily but, ultimately, you’re hurting yourself. You’re hurting your future, your success. People that don’t deliver, they don’t go very far. They become average. Do you want to live above average or do you want to be average? That is the reflection of the day.
