In order to educate and empower children and raise awareness about sexual abuse, the First I Say No More to Sexual Violence March was held in Yonkers on April 30th. The event coincided with the closing of the National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and its purpose was to support the victims of this scourge and prevent others from becoming victims.
María Trusa is a survivor of sexual abuse and now dedicates her efforts to the mission of raising awareness about this scourge. At a very young age, she was sexually abused after her father gave her to the man who was her aggressor. That night her life changed forever.
María, founder of the Yo Digo No Más Movement, has been working for years on her healing process that began at the age of 20 when she almost killed her own son with whom she could not connect because of the trauma she suffered, at that moment she decided to say No More.
Fénix Arias, who is part of the organizers of the march, pointed out the importance of educating and empowering children to prevent sexual abuse and emphasized that this requires a permanent effort from the community.
